[U.S. PREMIERE] TROPICAL ESCAPE

A duet dance performance created by Csaba Molnár (Hungary) and Márcio Canabarro (Germany/Brazil). Part dance, part lecture, TROPICAL ESCAPE uses both personal confession and historical references in a riotous study of queer eroticism, escapism as resistance, and the labor involved in the pursuit of pleasure, fantasy and freedom.

A duet dance performance created by Csaba Molnár (Hungary) and Márcio Canabarro (Germany/Brazil). Part dance, part lecture, TROPICAL ESCAPE uses both personal confession and historical references in a riotous study of queer eroticism, escapism as resistance, and the labor involved in the pursuit of pleasure, fantasy and freedom. ABOUT Csaba Molnár, dancer and choreographer, studied at Budapest Contemporary Dance Academy and P.A.R.T.S in Brussels. He joined the Italian dance company Compagnia Virgilio Sieni, and in 2010 became a member of the Hungarian company Hodworks. He worked as co-creator in the collective Bloom! (City, Tame Game, The End is Near), and later with Dányi-Molnár-Vadas (Skin Me). As an independent choreographer, he had worked in association with Trafó, Departs and Sín and produced two pieces (KITTY2012, Deacameron). As an artist in residence, he worked with the students of the Budapest Contemporary Dance Academy (Merriment) and created a piece for the EN-KNAP Group (68). He is co-creator of four pieces that had been granted the annual Lábán Rudolf Award for best dance performance and choreographer: Bloom!:City (2011), Hodworks: Basse Danse (2012), Dányi-Molnár-Vadas: Skin Me (2014), Hodworks: Dawn (2014), Tropical Escape (2016). The pieces City, KITTY2012, Skin Me, Dawn and The Conditions of Being Mortal were all chosen by the Aerowaves network for their annual showcase of the 20 best European contemporary dance performances. Recently, he has creating his own works, as well as creating as a part of Deeper F Collective. Márcio Kerber Canabarro is a Berlin-based dancer/performer/maker with B.A. in Social Communication (UNIJUI - RS - BR) and a Performing Major (SEAD -Salzburg-AT). His work with Csaba Molnár Tropical Escape has been honored in Hungary and Denmark. Canabarro is also part of the Hungarian based DEEPER F. Collective, which focuses on how we build, influence and transform our large community through the chain of our immediate affections and our ability to care. In 2018, Canabarro started a collaboration with Aleksandra Borys called Zero Waste Choreography, a platform to rethink modes of creating, producing and presenting choreographic work in relation to their environmental impact. Together, they developed the photographic project TRACKING: Visual Cues for Hope and the choreographic installation re-imagining life on Earth : COSMIC DEBRIS. Canabarro also has worked with well-known artists such as Sara Shelton Mann; Keith Hennessy; Adrien Hod (Hodworks); Peter Pleyer; Mark Tompkins; Benoit Lachambre; and Meg Stuart.
