Sewing Workshop: Objects of Permanence

The Home Planning Workshop is one of Henry Street Settlement’s longest-running initiatives. Since 1966, this program has taught countless Lower East Siders sewing and garment design skills.
Inspired by this legacy, join us for a hands-on workshop where you will learn the technical basics of sewing. Facilitated by Andres Biel, Lower East Side designer and director of the Henry Street Settlement’s youth fashion design program Rambler Studios.
This Sewing Workshop is presented on the occasion of Objects of Permanence, an installation curated by Mellány Sánchez.

About Andres Biel
Born and raised on the Lower East Side, Andres Biel is the creative director of the streetwear brand IFLYUNIVERSE. A self-taught designer, he received Harlem Fashion Week’s Emerging Designer Award in 2019 and in 2022, his line IFLYUNIVERSE was chosen as a SHEIN X collaborator for the global e-commerce retailer. Grateful for his success, Andres has returned to his Lower East Side roots by being an instrumental member of the Henry Street Settlement community as a fashion coach for the RAMBLER Program, a program that empowers young people to design one’s life through fashion.
