Seasons in a Quasar ​is collaborative performance by​ Brooklyn-based vocalist and producer ​Embaci ​and South African via NYC artist ​Dasychira. ​With references ranging from classic children's stories to Trinidadian folklore, the two artists use storytelling, sound design, improvisational scenes, and a surprise cast of guests to creat​e a magical world of their own. Seasons in a Quasar is co-presented by Abrons Arts Center and ISSUE Project Room ABOUT Embaci is a singer, producer and composer from New York, former member of creative collective NON alongside artists such as Chino Amobi, Nkisi and Angel-Ho. Recognized for her celestial voice and lyricism, the release of her 2016 NON VS NAAFI mixtape initiated her to an abundance of new audiences. Her background in music consists of training as a Contralto opera singer and Jazz musician. Her work extends into fluid genres and collaborative processes. She was recently featured on Dasychira’s debut album xDream. Dasychira (pronounced /ˈdah.see.kira/) is a South African artist by way of New York City. Currently running the label end of fae-minded collective UNSEELIE and occasionally throwing events, they actively engage with the cobweb of magical realism around them. Dasychira explores the creative chaos of fantasy and the paranormal - documenting their experiences of everyday oddities with sound. Their first two records, "Immolated" and "Haptics" were released on Blueberry Records in 2017 and 2018 respectively. After the release of Immolated they embarked on a nationwide tour of the US. In the summer of 2018, Dasychira toured Europe and Canada after the release of "Haptics". On July 12 2019, they released a collaborative EP on UNSEELIE called Bubble Wrap Armor with Changchun-based artist Yikii. In the fall of 2019, Dasychira released their debut album xDream on UNSEELIE x Blueberry Records and completed a full tour of Asia before premiering the album on October 31st in Los Angeles. They finished their year of with a festival appearance at Les Urbaines in Switzerland and a packed show in London. They are currently scoring films and creating multimedia pieces. Founded in 2003, ISSUE Project Room is a pioneering nonprofit performance center, presenting projects by interdisciplinary artists that expand the boundaries of artistic practice and stimulate critical dialogue in the broader community. ISSUE serves as a leading cultural incubator, facilitating the commission and premiere of innovative new works.
