George Emilio Sanchez is a performance artist, writer and activist. Most recently he collaborated with choreographer Paz Tanjuaquio in her dance piece, Station II Station, that was presented at La MaMa Moves. Last year he premiered Bang Bang Gun Amok at Abrons Arts Center which was a 24-hour performance filibuster on gun violence in the U.S. He is the Performance Director for Emergenyc for the past 11 years and has been named a Social Practice Artist-in-Residence at Abrons Arts Center. He teaches at CUNY’s College of Staten Island and serves on the Executive Council of the Professional Staff Congress.

Since 2007, University Settlement’s The Performance Project has been offering local young artists and professional artists opportunities to connect, create and publicly present new work. Our incubator for the next generation of citizen artists is fueled by our distinct, yet connected, cohorts: the Artist-in-Residency for Emerging Artists, The Fellowship for Young Adult Artists, our Play Tank Performance Intensives for Young Leaders and our Community Arts Councils for Local Residents   We also host community artists and dynamic guest artists seeking an affordable and supportive opportunity to self-produce their work.
