Private music lessons allow students, ages 5 to adult learners, to receive one-on-one instruction from professional musicians across many instruments. We welcome those who are first-time learners and those who want to further advance their talents.
For Spring 2022, Abrons Arts Center offers an array of private music lessons that will be held both in-person and virtually. Please specify which method of instruction you prefer in your private lesson inquiry.
Students receive 18-19 lessons, depending on the day of the week, in private music instruction from leading professional musicians. There is no set number for courses required but we recommend students participate in a full semester to excel in their instrument and subject of choice and to receive the best results from private lessons.
Students who participate in the full semester are eligible to participate in Abrons end of the semester public recital.
Spring 2022 Lessons are available in:
Bass (Upright and Electric)
Guitar (Acoustic and Electric)
Want to enroll in private lessons in another subject? Please reach out to Tyler Diaz, Education Manager, at TDiaz@HenryStreet.Org and we will work with you to set up private instruction.

The Sammy Cahn Scholarship
With a generous gift from Tita Cahn, Abrons Arts Center is pleased to offer an annual scholarship to six youth to support their study of music. The Sammy Cahn Scholarship provides six students who demonstrate a commitment to advancing their musical craft in an instrument of their choice (including voice) with one year of free, weekly thirty-minute private music lessons with a professional instructor. Students are invited to apply. Learn more about this scholarship opportunity.
All persons who are eligible to be vaccinated, aged 12 years and older, must show proof of COVID-19 vaccination in order to be onsite. This means that 14 days have passed since your final dose of an FDA or WHO-approved vaccine.
Valid forms of proof of vaccination include: Vaccination card, photo of vaccination card that clearly show your name and dates of vaccination with matching photo ID, the NYC COVID Safe app, or the NYS Excelsior Pass
Parent Vaccination Policy
All students requiring supervision must be accompanied by a vaccinated chaperon for pick up and drop off from Abrons classes. In the event that a parent/guardian is unvaccinated and not permitted to enter the building, the student must be joined by another vaccinated adult for pick up and drop off, and all other activities in the Abrons Arts Center building. Abrons Arts Center staff is not responsible for chaperoning students from the lobby to classrooms.
Vaccination policy for children under the age of 12 years old
Abrons recognizes the changing landscape and protocols of vaccination policies for children under the age of 12 and we will be responsive to these changes as city, state and DOE mandates evolve. At this time, children under the age of 12 years old do not have to show proof of vaccination but must wear masks while on site.
