In this caregiver-and-child course, our littlest learners explore music through song and dance in a foreign language environment.   Young learners and their grown ups play games, learn songs and dances in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese, while gaining an introduction to music theory and being exposed to  two of NYC’s largest foreign language communities.

About Katherine Garcia

Katherine is a proud mother and a multidisciplinary artist with roots in Cameroon, Ireland, and Spain, born to immigrant parents from Peru and the Dominican Republic. Hailing from The Bronx, she is a creative, spoken word poet and teaching artist with extensive experience in teaching creative programs for children and youth. Skilled in classroom support, behavior management, and leading workshops that blend art, poetry, and music, Katherine is passionate about helping students express themselves through writing, visual arts, and performance while fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.

She has collaborated with the Nuyorican Poets Café, Bowery Poetry Club, City College, John Jay College, NYU, and the Bronx Museum of the Arts. Over the years, Katherine has gained extensive experience working with children with developmental disabilities and those on the autism spectrum, using art as a tool for personal growth and empowerment while prioritizing mental health advocacy.

About Wen-Ting Wu

Wen-Ting Wu is a versatile drummer, composer, and educator from Taiwan, currently based in New York. With a Master's degree in Jazz Performance from Queens College, her musical practice is deeply inspired by self-reflection and social observation. Known for her versatility and emotive expression, she uses music as a spiritual vessel to create a space of freedom, honesty, and empathy.

As an educator with over 10 years of teaching experience, Wen-Ting has worked with students of all ages in various settings, from private lessons for children (ages 4 and up) and adult students, to after-school music programs for middle schoolers, ensemble classes for high schoolers, and masterclasses at universities. She has directed ensembles, designed lesson plans, and led workshops and masterclasses in university residencies. Her teaching philosophy centers on creating positive, empathetic learning environments where students can express themselves through music, explore their creativity, and deepen their musical understanding. Fluent in both English and Mandarin, Wu is passionate about helping students find joy and connection with themselves through music.
