Breaking introduces the fundamentals of breaking, the hip hop dance form created in New York City. Learners will begin their study with the foundational moves of breaking like the top rock, footwork, freezes, and power moves.
Schedule
Summer workshops take place Monday–Friday, August 4–15.
Ages 8–12: 4pm
Ages 13–18: 5pm
Ages 19+: 6pm
About Zack Cruz
Zack Cruz was born and raised on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. He started his dance career as an underground b-boy competing in national dance competitions and performing with crews such as Rock Steady Crew, Full Circle, BREAKS Crew, BKC and Breaking with Style. After his start in breaking, Zack transitioned to become a concert-style dancer. He studied ballet, modern and jazz at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School for the performing arts, Alvin Ailey, Steps on Broadway and Abrons Arts Center. Zack has performed with artists such as The Sugar Hill Gang, KRS-One and Earth, Wind & Fire, and has been working as a teaching artist for the past eight years with companies such as Henry Street Settlement Abrons Arts Center, Downtown Dance Factory, Lower East Side Dance Academy, Wingspan Arts, Applause, University Settlement, and Asphalt Green.
