This course is for people who want to imagine new ways of living beyond the systems that shape our world today. Together, we will explore what it could mean to build communities based on care, cooperation, and shared responsibility. Each class combines reading, discussion, and creative activities. Learners will take part in practices such as body awareness exercises, qigong, collage, mapping, and symbol-making (sigilism) to help explore new ideas and possibilities. Topics include cultural memory, harm reduction, Afro-pessimist thought, and community preparedness. Throughout the course, learners will practice imagining different futures and consider how creative thinking can support collective survival and social change.
This course will be held in person at the Abrons Arts Center. All courses will gather on Friday October 30 for a culminating share out.

About Joy Norton + Kiki Mills
Joy Norton is a Brooklyn-based performance artist and movement instructor whose work channels Black femme resistance through endurance, improvisation, and somatic practice. She runs PPPleasure Studios, an affordable studio in Brooklyn. Recent work includes choreography at Abrons Arts Center, Center for Performance Research and Judson Church, with past residencies at New Dance Alliance, Movement Research, and Brooklyn Arts Exchange.
Kiki Mills is a multidisciplinary facilitator and collage practitioner fascinated by alternative Black lifestyles. She hosts free monthly collage workshops at Bailey's Cafe in Bed-Stuy where she's also been training in qigong for 3 years. She recently began leading qigong classes at Rikers Island. Her practice centers archival image-making, disruptive community art-building, and collective imagination.
