Back by popular demand! Following its 2017 New York Times Critic’s Pick world premiere, which introduced many New York audiences to the widely popular British art form known as the Panto, Jack & the Beanstalk returns this holiday season with even more radical joy. Jack needs the whole town’s support to help them chop down the beanstalk. In the process, Jack and their neighbors free themselves from their oppressor, the plundering Giant Rump. Written by disabled actor/writer Mat Fraser, directed by feminist artist Julie Atlas Muz and featuring an intergenerational, inclusive cast, Jack & the Beanstalk brings the Lower East Side together with a family-friendly holiday production that is inherently irreverent, lightly political, and has the message that eventually good triumphs over evil.

About ONEOFUS: We are ONEOFUS, co-directors Julie Atlas Muz, NY feminist dance theater maker and Mat Fraser, UK Disability Artist, actor and writer. We are married and work together and individually, in every capacity and medium of performance. We are outrageously loving disruptors. We do not fit comfortably in any box: theater, dance, cabaret, film, TV, burlesque or pure activism, and yet we feel at home in them all. Our work is a mixture of everything that best serves our message which inevitably includes Disability Rights and Feminism. Conversely in our core, we are traditionalists, true theater makers in love with creating and then upending structure. We love a well placed song. We love the rhythm of comedy. We love making audiences cry. We love stage spectacle. We love high kicks and good costumes. We love strong content.ONEOFUS is specifically dedicated to creating artwork in support of and in celebration of under recognized communities as well as in resistance to tyrannical tendencies. WE ACCEPT YOU, ONEOFUS.

Jack & the Beanstalk is commissioned by Abrons Arts Center through the Abrons AIRspace Residency Program with generous grants from the Howard Gilman Foundation, the Mertz Gilmore Foundation, the Harkness Foundation for Dance, the Jerome Foundation, the Jerome Robbins Foundation, the Scherman Foundation, and other generous Henry Street Settlement funders. This program is also supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council. This season was also made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
