James Wong: Mean Green-Face Tells No Tale
James Wong is a visionary New York City based artist who draws the technology of space exploration and conflicts of future worlds. Born in Hong Kong (1972), Wong moved to New York as a child, studied at Art and Design High School, and has been making art for the past 33 years. He draws scenes animated by invented spacecrafts bristling with defenses and exotic weaponry against imagined forces and otherworlds. Inspired by sci-fi movies, television and the graphics of video games Wong has designed his own armadas ready to conquer treachery. The graphic clarity of his imagery is enhanced by colored markers starkly set in the void, frozen action, or splayed out as technical diagrams. Each illustration takes a week to design followed by a month of applying color. Wong has produced over 7,000 works of art and has exhibited in several New York galleries including American Primitive Gallery, Chinese American Arts Council, and Abrons Arts Center of Henry Street Settlement.
