Henry Street Settlement's Abrons Arts Center has been the center of artistic excellence on Manhattan’s Lower East Side since 1893. Our founder, Lillian Wald, believed everyone should have access to the arts and created opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to benefit from live performances, exhibitions, and training in a wide range of artistic disciplines. Some of the most adventurous artists of the past century have trained, taught, or performed at Henry Street, including Martha Graham, Aaron Copland, Dizzy Gillespie, Alwin Nikolais, Jackson Pollock, Orson Welles, Morgan Freeman, and even more recently Alicia Keys and New York City Ballet's Amar Ramasar.
The Settlement’s Abrons Arts Center continues to offer superb training programs for all ages and skill levels in dance, music, theater, and the visual arts. All classes are taught by professional teaching artists, and all students are provided numerous opportunities to enhance their learning through the diverse range of performances and exhibits offered in our theatres and galleries throughout the year.
Delve into our class listings and you’ll discover a dynamic array of learning opportunities in dance, music, theater, and visual arts for practically everyone. Whether you’re introducing your child to an art form, exploring creative outlets for yourself, or seeking professional enhancement, you’ll find it here at the Abrons Arts Center.
